Letterpressed Business Card

This is a business card designed by Kathy Meinhardt – Stars Align Global Brands & Design. It is a 2 color letterpress business card on 220# cranes lettra pearl white paper. Letterpress is the printing process developed by Johannes Gutenberg. It is a process that is still sought out and one we provide at The Printer.  The letterpress pushes an inked up metal die into the paper to make the image impression.  This creates a unique texture you can only get from letterpressing. Take a look at the detail below the main image to see how the letters are pressed into the paper.  The classic feel and finish of a letterpress print job takes printing back to an era of quality and craftsmanship.(Read more about the process here).

California Vintage Specialties

We created these labels from the ground up. Not many people know that we offer full design services in addition to the printing we do. Here are pictures of them on the bottles.

California Vintage Specialties is a local Davis business that makes traditionally crafted high quality vinegars and extra virgin olive oils by recreating the flavors the ancient Romans experienced millennia ago.

We created these labels from the ground up. Not many people know that we offer full design services in addition to the printing we do.

The scope of these labels was to redesign the company logo to new specifications and design five similar, but different labels. The best part was being given the artistic freedom for the look of the different labels. Here is what was created.

Anatomy of a Job

When printed pieces wind up in your hand they are meant to be a seamless end product.

Here is a recent brochure put together by the Davis Food Coop.

To anyone that receives this it is clear that it is to join the Davis Food Coop.

To the employees of the Coop it is clear that there is information printed to be used to sign a customer up and to save the person $5.00.

What is less clear are the different printing techniques used to produce this brochure. The below image shows what went into making this piece. Most notably being the two color printing and the variable data.

This brochure was printed offset, using two colors.  Using offset printing gives the full, rich color that ink offers. This also allowed for the screened, orange image of the store.

We then ran it through our digital press to print the barcodes. Since two incremented up and one incremented down we used our variable data capability to handle the barcodes. Every piece wound up with a different sequence of numbers.

No matter what elements are needed, at The Printer we can help tie them all together in one cohesive piece.

Clever Trimming

Here is a tri-fold brochure we printed this week. The designer got creative and wanted the top trimmed at an angle. We did it and it turned out great! Love to see other parts of the printing process used to enhance a design.
